The end of term one
The menu has been rich for the week that was.
9.12 Today I woke up and started with my essay. It was impossibly slow. It finally started flowing when I stopped listening to music and really started to think. I sat until five and wrote, read and thought. I was getting the touch. At 6 I met Suzi at the Goat. We had a drink and a talk. Then back and some debating with Fernando and Samuel about the most important things in the world. Our opinions differ.
8.12 I had an early morning. Fernando and me woke up 6:45. A quick breakfast and making of lunch box. At 7:30 we jumped in the taxi. Fernando was 5 minutes late and I had a go at him. We arrived to the Central Station. It was damp and the station was quiet. There was not a queue so we got tickets for 6,20 each and jumped on the train. Outside it was cloudy and grey. The weather forecast was heavy rain. What a brilliant idea to visit an island on the west coast with this knowledge. We arrived to Wemyss Bay where the station is attached to the pier. We bought tickets for about 5 pounds and got on MS Bute. It was nice to be on the sea. Blandine and me spent time outside on the deck. The air was salty and refreshing. The waves were small but the wind was strong. In 45 minutes we were at Rothesay, the main town on the island with around 7000 inhabitants. Mostly built in a neat Victorian style along the coast. We left the ferry and headed towards the main attraction, the Victorian toilets. It was just next to the terminal. It was a brick house in yellow and red. It should have been open but it was closed. Slightly disappointed we took 50 photos of the building. Instead our attention was drawn to two dangerous looking boats. They reminded me of my brothers. From there we walked into the town in search for a coffehouse. They were opening at 10 a.m. We walked around and checked the following buildings in Rothesay: Rothesay castle, the community house, the library, a police station and a sheriff court that was for sale. It started raining. We walked past a cafe filled with old middle classers and entered the Musicker. The service was very friendly. The played music from the fifties and sold guitars and other music related products. One hour there and we started to the Discovery Office which is in other words the tourist office. We asked for help. We wanted to get on a bus and sight-see the Island. There was a service in summer that drove around the island. We tought about taking a bus, but it turned out to be impossible. It must have been very frustrating to advice tourists there. There was nothing to do in this time of the year although the island sure was beautiful. The final decision was to walk a nice footpath, but when we got outside it was raining even harder. It was impossible. We decided to walk along the coast to a nice teahouse, according to the t-office. It was windy and rainy. It was like marching in the "Finnish defence force". Conrad and me got there first and ordered a tea for two. Fernando, Blandine, Anna and the Chinese girl(Sorry I forgot your name) dropped in a couple of minutes later. We had tea and Conrad a slice of lime pie(?). We warmed ourselves and started back. It was easier with the wind in the back. We reached the tourist office and lied down on sofas slightly soaked. The ferry was leaving in 30 minutes. Conrad read a picture book for us. He was excited of one of the characters - "Conrad the polar bear". We got on the ferry and enjoyed our lunch boxes on board. Sandwiches with ham, tomatoes and cheese. Apples and bananas too. We arrived to Wemyss Bay. There we entered the small station pub. It was full of smoke because of an open fire. We got on the train 20 minutes later and started back to Glasgow. In Glasgow it was snowing big, fat, wet snow flakes. It was almost rain. Anna and the Chinese girl decided to prepare dinner for the travellers. We bought food and walked to Kelvinhaugh Street in snow. We were totally soaked and I was very worried about Blandines shoes(read slippers). At home resting of soul, body and mind. We walked just next door to Kelvinhaugh Gate. They were preparing a awesome dinner. Six courses of Chinese food. It ate and ate and the felt embarrassed then. I was complementing the food as well. It was one of my best dinners in my life. The chef promised to take me to the Chinese supermarket in Glasgow and show me how to make things. After the dinner we washed up and enjoyed the photos of the day. Happy and full up we returned. I watched the Platoon and went to sleep.
7.12 Friday I started naturally with studies. I read and wrote on my essay about the implications of soft law on the institutional balance of the EU. At 4 I walked to the Law workshop and borrowed an important book that I have to remember to return tomorrow. At 9:30 I walked to 78 F for a Finnish independence party. At the most we were seven Finns with two boys and five girls. I had the great joy of reading the Iltasanomat (yellow press in Finland) about yesterdays party at the president´s castle. And the minister of culture and sports has divorced. It was my Finnish feeling of the night. To read the low-quality newspaper. From there Fabien, Asko and me continued to flat B of 69 for a Mohito party. There I met some good friends that were very drunk. I left after 30 minutes. I wanted to be refreshed on the trip to the wonderful Isle of Bute. I drank a cup of tea with Samuel and went to sleep.
6.12 I was tired so tired. Partially because I had been out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and partially because of the final death of the relationship between me and Jenni. The matter needs more than one sentence, but not here. I studied for my essay that day. At night most people left for the Primary but I stayed at home. I listened to Sibelius "Finlandia" and Rautavaara on Classic FM. I was extraordinarily content with that decision, that I stayed home that is. I woke up on Friday very refreshed.
5.12 Was Wednesday. I think I started this day with my essay. Yes, I was studying and at 2 I went to Wolfson Medical Building for a seminar about the new reform treaty in the EU. I attended the first part about Germany. At the coffee brake I had a coffee and a cookie. The person asked me: What do you want to have sir. It was nice and it was probably of my nice glasses. I left the building and read in the Law Workshop more. I returned at 7. I ate a salad with mozzarella, tomatoes, olives etc. I sat out for the Poetry night in Tchai Ovna which is a nice teahouse. I listened to the poetry and drank a spice master. There was music and drama performed by teachers and students. I read a small thing in Swedish. After the night at 10 we were invited for a vegetable soup at Robbies flat. It was a stylish place with high ceilings and big rooms. The floor was sloping and it was cold inside. Anyway only 300 for a month. I had some soup and wine and talked about Greece, Ireland, Finland, Classics and history. I walked home at 12 o´clock through the quiet West End.
4.12 Was Tuesday. I studied. I hope that´s not I lie. I cannot remember what I did. At night I had serious discussion and then I went to the Goat with Conrad. We had a debate on relatinships and they served some very fresh Heinneken bier. It was good, Conrad affirmed. We planned future trips and walked home in the warm strong wind. Maybe + 12.
3.12 Was busy. I went to class for 1 and left 3. I walked quickly home and had a dinner. Sausages and noodles. Then I went to the pub Left Bank and met up with the Film-making society for the first time. There were some very interesting people. I presented my project and met a Finnish girl. I signed up and chatted with a nice girl from Lithuania and a professional whose film had been on BBC 2 and a director from Kent. One American looked like a philosopher of the continental kind. At 7:30 I said by and cya next Monday. From there I walked to my teachers house, Ms Dukes. There I was served moulded wine and German ginger bread(like soft pepparkaka). I discussed about exchange studies, Denmark, Scotland and The Law Society of Glasgow. It was most rewarding. People got tipsy and I left for the English literature society. I met Rafael on the way there. He said there was not much going on, so I headed home. On the way I met Gianfranco, Alessia, Clara, Matthieu, Elisabetta and Davide. They persuaded me to come to a traditional Scottish bar. I accepted. Later Sara, Marco and Andrea came. The hair of Alessia started burning when she leaned over a candle. She smiled and didnt´t realise her fringe was on fire. Marco hit her head hard and the fire died down. It started smelling like shit and we walked home.
2.12 I have completely forgotten the Sunday that was. I add five minutes later. I was ice-skating with Andre(girl), Blandine, Fernando, Samuel and me. It was great fun. A guard came up to me and said: don´t skate so fast. Let the pictures describe the rest. After we went to MC Donald´s. My first time in Glasgow. Same crap as everywhere, is my personal opinion.
1.12 I watched with Andrea(girl), Andrea(boy), Marco, Fernando and Blandine Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. After that we played twister and I discovered some muscles I didn´t know I had.
