Last days in Finland

Behind is a wonderful and joyful New years celebration. I got up early, 7:45, on Sunday. I packed my things and had a quick shower and breakfast. My father gave me a bottle of squash and made me to sandwiches. I left Jorvas for visiting my town of studies, Vasa. It is a town with sixty thousand inhabitants. I started my law studies in autumn 2005 there. It was like going abroad, moving 500 km.

I bought tickets from the ticket office. One seller was pouring water into the pots  where Christmas flowers were growing. I walked down to platform 3 and got on the train. It was an empty and quiet car that I sat in. I read Franz Kafkas The Process. In Seinäjoki, the deepest shit hole in the whole of Finland, I called Linda.

It was exciting to return to Vasa. It is one of the older town in Finland, but is definitely younger than other European cities. It was snowing and the ground was clean white. I loved that. I walked in the cold weather to Alko and to a market to buy things that had been ordered by the host of the party. It included "Republic" (fin. Tasavalta) vodka.

From there I continued I continued to Linda´s apartment. She is living with two other girls. We chatted and it was fun, like in the old times. That was a very nice time. One small change was that we spoke English, because Linda´s boyfriend doesn´t understand English. I left late. I bought a frozen pizza a la Iceland.

I entered my old flat. It was white, clean and familiar. I left my things, warmed the pizza, had a shower and tried to rest a while, for being in best shape for the incoming fight. I left 6:30 for Kyrkoesplanaden. Nathalie opened the door when I knocked. We greeted warmly, Frida, Nathalie and me. There I met also Lotta, Ka, Heidi, Rasmus, Lukas and Vladi.

We started eating, talking and drinking. It was great but not nostalgic in the same sense as at Linda´s. We laughed and spoke some English as well because Vladi doesn´t  speak Swedish. We ate for four hours. At 11:30 we walked to Fiskar Stranden to watch the town´s bonfire. It was slippery and icy outside. We walked the short way and arrived just on time. The bonfire was nice. Not very big, but I didn´t mind. We cheered the new year. I was choked when I realised it was 1.1 2008.

We walked back to the flat. A private driver arrived 10 mins later and drove us to Böle Umgdomsförenings lokal, which is a place for young people to arrange things. We got lost but found our way finally. The rest arrived and we gathered ourselves and we were all there. It was dancing until 5. It was impossible to get a taxi so we walked home. We found a taxi just outside the town. We had been walking for 45 minutes. I finally felt in bed at 6 o´clock.

I woke up again at 10:45 and walked back to Nathalie´s. We ate the rest of the food and I helped washing up. At 2 o´clock I said goodbye. We realised we will meet again in 4 weeks, even less. That is Frida and Nathalie. How nice isn´t that.

I walked to the train after I had cleaned the flat, quickly. I bought Finnish fast food and got on the train. I slept until Tammerfors (fin. Tampere). From there on I talked with Jan. I was lucky to meet him in the train. He had been on a mission with the army. He has served his time now. When I met him, he had three days left. I felt content have had it done.

This is how it was when Elias returned to his golden roots.

The next day 2.1 I woke up too early after the late nights of New Year Celebration. I promised to join Thomas on his way to Åbo (fin. Turku), where he is studying. He picked me up at 9:45. Thomas is a friend of mind since high school, we were about 17 years old. It started snowing when we sat in the car. It was cold and the road a  bit slippery. Two hours later we arrived to Åbo. It was gray and icy. We carried inside some stuff into his flat. From there we drived to buy a desk. I paid for it because he forgot his wallet. So if he is not paying I have a desk in Åbo. We returned after buying food and eating and when we came out again from the flat we realised we had been blocking the way. Somebody was waiting. Then we returned and I had dinner with my family. Later Isak came with his friend Henrik.

3.1 Yesterday, I woke up 10:30 and was in my pyjama from that time until 6 o´clock. At 6 some neighbour friends arrived. We ate home made pizza and told stories. They stayed for quite some time, but eventually left at 9.

4.1 Is today. I woke up 10:30 again. I usually wake up at that time nowadays. Isak turned up and we went to a lake nearby. We checked the ice if it was strong enough. It wasn´t, but it´s very cold now here. - 10 in the night and - 5 in the day. No real snow yet though. In the afternoon, me and Titus started recording drums and guitar. We didn´t do that for a long time, because Titus´ girlfriend arrived. I had dinner and now I am sitting here.

Tomorrow I start for Glasgow. I´ll take the ferry to Stockholm and spend the Sunday there. On Sunday at 1800 I start for Glasgow and I hopefully I`ll arrive there in the evening on Sunday.
